micro-managing print & design

Could it be a reflection of the crummy economy? The desire to micro-manage is on the rise. Let’s just forget the reasons why this might be happening and focus on why we need to avoid it.

First of all, micro-managing leads to a sense of distrust between colleagues. What better way to tell someone, ‘I think you’re incapable of completing this task’ than to perch over their shoulder while they work? You’ve chosen the person for the job, now let them do their thing!

It seems pretty simple, but the root of the problem is often deeper than this. Micro-management can actually be a way to compensate for one’s own shortcomings.

Be bold. Let people know (politely) that getting the job done means letting the professionals do what they do.
