HD Design & Printing is now taking orders for offset printed business cards with embedded NFC chips. By merging high quality cards with the fast growing technology of Near Field Communications, HD Design & Printing has raised the bar for this important piece of networking collateral.

The combination of offset printed cards and next-generation Near Field Communication chips is a critical step in the advancement of printing technology. The production advantage with HD Design & Printing comes from a passion for hand-mixed inks, which provide a rich, more natural color than what is possible in CMYK printed material. Widely used by designers, the pantone color library is the standard upon which professional designers and printers rely. While color matching is the main advantage of pantone color, the tactile look and feel ink on paper provides a superior print finish in a world of toner based printing.

HD Design & Printing has set itself apart by commanding a strong grip on short run pantone printing. Recent industry trends towards digital printing has led most printers away from custom-mixed color. Because the quality of digital printing cannot stand up to traditional offset, HD’s growth has remained steady. With the addition of embedded NFC technology, HD has proven that it’s role as an industry innovator will remain intact.

Currently, our NFC chips can contain web links, text or vCard information. Google’s Nexus S and the Blackberry Bold are available now. Both read NFC cards. Many more phones will be available in coming months.

NFC cards are currently available as custom orders. Contact HD Design & Printing to order.

Image editing has come a long way over the last 20 years. Today, we are using iPads to create new illustration content for our website and blog.
Why the iPad when a desktop is more powerful and has more tools? The answer is flexibility, spontaneity and directness.
Even with sensitive drawing pads connected to computers, pen movement is removed from the screen. On the iPad you get results at your fingertips (or the tip of your stylus). This direct touch is a less virtual experience which creates more engagement between artist and work. Also, having limited capabilities forces greater creativity to produce results. Imagine the iPad as a set of colored pencils vs. the computer which is like a complete art supply store.
The main reason we like it though has to do with style… iPad drawings just look cool. There is a decrease insensitivity of the device which leads to some cool effects. Our brains have become so used to glossy, perfectly rendered computer images. It’s time now to get funky!

Images below created with Artrage, Brushes and Ink Pad.

Dedicated blog readers may remember this image from a previous post. The illustration was originally done from a photo taken during a tour of Manhattan Island. This illustration marked the first use of our new Wacom drawing tablet. The ease and intuitive feel of this new tool has led to many new works.
