The story behind the business

HD Design & Printing was started in the the late summer of 2006 when founding members Damian Russell and Andy Holck decided to take the plunge. In combination with an established  business printer, the HD team rented a press and hustled up print jobs. It wasn’t glamorous but it was a start.

During the early stages, there were plenty of client meetings in Starbucks. There were lots of long train rides and cross town trips to get supplies. But there was a driving force to make something new. Leveraging relationships with established printers allowed a young company to gain traction within the industry early on. People knew to call on HD when complicated jobs came up.

Quality product and low overhead expenses allowed the operation to continue and grow.  In the early spring of 2008, HD Design & Printing was presented with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. A local print shop offered to sell their press room equipment. It was a bold and risky move, but it happened quickly. The young company now had a complete working print shop – not to mention a hefty bill to pay. Moving the shop happened over a long weekend – the press was back up and running by the following Monday.

Subsequent to this move, the national economy slid into recession. The political environment was turned upside down. But, HD Design & Printing continued to move forward with one goal in mind – pay off the equipment.

We are pleased to announce that this recession-busting print shop has done it!
